Tolerance

Tolerance

The capacity to endure continued subjection to something, especially a drug, transplant, antigen, or possibly environmental conditions, without adverse reaction. This can be a dangerous and difficult condition to overcome in opioid use, as it means those who have built up tolerance will often require more frequent and higher doses (putting them at greater risk for overdose or addiction). Additionally, this can lead to many challenges for the patient and their care team, family/friends, and ability to conduct daily activities.
